QUALITY UPHOLSTERY - A YORKSHIRE TRADITION
Vale has always been committed to lasting quality, creating elegant but extremely
robust upholstery that can become a “part of the family” for its customers.
Vale Upholstery was established in the west Riding of Yorkshire in 1947, drawing
from the long established craftsman skills in joinery and textiles that the region
is famous for as well as a heritage of fine furniture making.
In 1992 Vale moved to its present location, Mytholmroyd near Hebden Bridge. The
village is famed for its literary associations as well as its superb surrounding
countryside of wooded dales and open moors.
Vale is dedicated to uncompromising quality in the creations of upholstery that
will stand the test of time and fashion.

Every piece of furniture we make involves an exceptional percentage of hand crafted
work, only possible through traditional skills and know-how.
The basis of quality is rooted in careful design, creating the original ideas of
an elegant and balanced look. The inherent comfort that the best upholstery provides
is not created by accident. Vale Upholstery operates a consistent policy of product
development, designing and prototyping new styles constantly in order to create
the classics of tomorrow.
Inside all our upholstery is a special strength, celebrated throughout the furniture
industry. We use kiln dried hardwood to craft and shape especially generous frames,
up to 20% more than average, to give them extra substance and resilience. We are
so confident in our frames that we have given them a 25 year guarantee, subject
to wear and tear.

The seating is given reinforced, full steel coil springing. Positioning and fixing
of the springs is a key factor in giving firm comfort that will endure and bounce
back from years of use.
The padding of the upholstery is completed in careful, generous layers of high resilience
foam and felts, creating the full shape of the style. Cushions are either luxuriously
soft fibre or high resilience foam, applied in an arrangement that is guaranteed
to give effectively firm but relaxing support.
Covers are made up in our own sewing department, using the appropriate, best quality
thread and seasoned seamstress skills to make generous, reinforced seams. After
being slowly fitted and finished in every delicate detail, all Vale Upholstery is
thoroughly quality inspected before being sent on to its new home.
Occupying a 70,000 square feet factory, Vale produces around 300 pieces of upholstery
per week, supplying judiciously selected independent retailers throughout Britain.

We offer you a wide choice in each collection, giving a more flexible option than
the conventional “three piece suite” and allow you the customer to select pieces
of furniture and styling details to suit your needs.
Hand carved wooden fascias for arms, wings and carved rails and legs, are designed
to give selected collections of our upholstery an extra flourish of style and traditional
elegance. With all of our ranges that offer this option, the classical flourish
of carved wood is complemented by the ultimate in modern seating comfort.
There are literally thousands of choices in Vale’s repertoire of covering fabrics.
These are produced exclusively for Vale by a distinguished group of specialist fabric
makers from around the world. The unique designs in construction are especially
suitable for first class upholstery, hard-wearing and pleasing to touch.
